Why are you so adamant about defending the FRAM filter? You should just be happy that you now know you were using crap filters.

As far as oil cost, It all depends on how you do your maintenance. And howmuch driving you do.

I spend about $50 just on the oil (Redline 10w-30) and then buy a good quality filter, OEM if possible and if not K&N or somthing. I change the filter way before 3500 miles. But dont change the oil till atleast 8000 miles. Ofcourse I top up the oil whenever it needs.

Now im not saying that you should wait so long to change your oil, but I followed similar practices on my other cars, and had the oil tested after about 10k miles and according to the lab it was fine for continued usage. The mileages on my other cars are 190k (15psi boost) and 240k miles, and the engines are in great condition.

PCX is specifically made for the s2k.

Your Fram is not.

You seem to have done more tests on the Fram than my previous company, do what you want.

I'm using Amsoil oil primarily because I like its additive package. It is probably overkill, but UOAs posted on this oil are pretty good.

If VWtwisties lurked around Bobistheoilguy.com, he'd probably switch filters. He'd probably switch if he cut open the Fram filter and saw its construction. IMO, Fram does a pretty good job of filtering, but its plastic bypass valve, butyl anti-drainback valve, and cardboard endcaps make it the least desired filter on the market by many people. And since it has less filter media than the PCX filter, it will likely go into bypass longer at startups.

OK...I guess I'll bow down to some of you folks who take your oil to the lab! I guess you went the extra 100 steps...thanks for all the effort so people like me and most everyone else can learn from their mistakes.

Funny how Fram's still in business though. Must be a lot of vehicles with 'crap filters' out there. I'll check some of this data so I can change my oil filter. It sounds like the Mobil 1 synthetic oil is acceptable though. I'm sure if enough people see this, in a few days, it will be 'crap oil' too!

No Mobil is very good oil as well. You can stick to that.

Dude, relax...people are just trying to give you some advice here, not start a $hit-talking match with you...

FYI, yes Fram is still in business, and has been for many, many years...but that doesn't change the fact that they make poorly made oil filters...this has been proven by MANY sources, some of which have been provided by this thread...

Bottom line is you're free to use whatever filters and oils you'd like, but don't get pissed when people provide you with data (or opinions for that matter) on the items you admittedly use...

Anyways, back on topic...I've been using Amsoil for the last couple oil changes, and I love it...it's a bit on the pricey side, but well worth it...
