Default Amsoil MTF

Hi,

I was looking into Amsoil MTF for my next transmission fluid change. Does anyone have experience w/this oil? From previous posts, it doenst look like too many people have tried it.

I like that Amsoil lists it as a replacement for Honda MTF. However, one thing that bothered me about the Amsoil MTF oil is that its rated at 5W-30, Is that right? Isn't Honda MTF like 75W-80?

Heres the oil I'm looking at:

I believe Honda MTF is 10W30. You are probably thinking about the gear oil used in the rear differential when you were thinking 75W80. The transmission and gear oil are NOT the same thing.

Ah ic, gear oil and engine oil are rated differently. I'm not sure what the translation is, but on the Redline site the MTL fluid is rated as a 70W80 GL-4 Gear Oil (SAE 5W30/10W30 engine oil viscosity).

This is sort of confusing. So assuming that Honda MTF is 10W-30, by going w/the Amsoil stuff am running a thinner weight? Is that ok?

Oh, I think they are rated differently because they are tested at different operating temperatures. My from google search: "Gear oil viscosity is measured at 150 F vs. 210 F for motor oil"

Gear oil and engine oils are rated differently, a 75W-80 gear oil is ~ equal to a 5W-30 engine oil.

Another note, on Redline's datasheet, they list Redline MTL as a 70W80 gear oil and as a 5W30 motor oil. Heres a table of some of the specs that were published on the Amsoil and Redline websites:
