Tear down. Be prepared to put motor in. Sell it to highest offer. Store it for later. Plenty options. Just gotta decide what is your goal and make it happen.

Sounds like my guess was not too far off, considering that there wasn't actually an oil analysis performed...

so the oil analysis that was performed was a mechanic at the shop using his eyeballs to look for metal in the oil. unfortunately this is not actually an oil analysis.

so, there is the possibility that an actual oil analysis shows some damage.

sorry OP, keep us updated if you breathe new life into this car.

they claimed they had the proper machinery to test the oil, something about ultraviolet light on it I believe but maybe they were bullshitting me, I paid $250 for that so they better not be. I am very burned out on the car, it is a poor investment that will spend a while sitting.

Holly crap dude, that is a massive load of BS!! I send my oil to blackstone and for $25 I get an actual report with the wear metals in it. I wouldn't trust a thing that that shop has told you and I would never go back

No offense, but I think part of the issue is your lack of mechanical knowledge and buying a car with a rebuilt engine. Now your relying on others to tell you if there is an issue when there may not even be one. To me that last video sounds like loud valves or something top end related I hear zero rod knock. Post a video of it being reved to 3k and held for a moment and then blipped to 3k and let off a few times. If there is still no rod knock sounds my suggestion is to drive it for 1-2k miles change the oil and send it to Blackstone for $25. If there is a problem in the build you will get elevated Aluminum. If you get normal results then focus on the valve adjustment, to me it sounds very much like loose valves. Heck check your exhaust manifold to make sure you don't have a leak at the head or a leak at the cat. Do not pay people any more $ until you do these things!

Valves are adjusted for free. It may be deeper in head but I doubt it. Tear down head at least. I thought same of noise. Till I heard it live. Lay off the guy. His car, his money, his decision. He is learning a hard lesson the hard way. Bet he doesn't make that mistake again. He has had lots of opinions and now he has to take what he has learned and use it.

i wasn't trying to be hard on him, I was trying to help and provide perspective, hence my use of "no offense". I think what I said is a valuable perspective that should be entertained before spending more $, but your right he can do whatever. If he wants to pay $250 for someone to look at his oil with a black light then ok....

I still advise going on the S2000 Cincinnati Facebook page and getting a shop reccomendation if the OP wants to go further down the rabbit hole

i think at this point, the thought now is whether the bottom end is still A-OK.

has good compression, runs fine even when pushed hard.

I would say a $25 used oil analysis would be the next step.

if that checks out fine, then really we have a fine running motor that's noisy until the head gets examined further.

UOA is cheap and easy and would probably give you information that would help make the decision about what is next. But, given the descriptions, my prediction is you need to get the head off.
