i will see how much I can get the AP2 for. Depending on that factor I will either fix my car up or sell it for probably less than half I have in it.

Why do you say that? Looks stock to me. I don't see any iron sleeve in this block. Its bone stock.

To the OP, you have to decide if the car is worth dropping roughly 4 grand into dropping in a used motor. we still don't know what's wrong with your old one. But if you are going to do it, see if you can find a 00-05 f22 engine. These are a direct swap in and can even use your ap1 ecu.

I have paperwork I posted somewhere in here that shows the shop stated they replaced the Pistons and sleeved it, so along with that and others' opinions I would have to believe it is sleeved sadly

Stock sleeves you can barely see any crosshatching, and look less metallic, a bit more dull, also, you can see the lip of the sleeves, whereas a normal block looks like one solid piece.

My golden eagle sleeved motor has clear support around the cylinders where the water jacket is like an entire inner new section of the cylinders/block, looks totally different then this block. I can not see where the sleeve starts/stops on the pics posted above. Just looks like a stock block to me if memory serves. Maybe the iron sleeves shown in second pic with cross hatching are considered "dry sleeve" Darton? which I'm unfamiliar with. I was looking at the entire block with coolant jacket around the cylinders which all looks the same/oem. Forged pistons are supposed to be used with an iron sleeve. Too bad if someone F that up using the stock FRM pistons. I would try and go back to that shop and have them rebuild it for free.

Looks like stock pistons in an iron sleeve !! & poor cross hatch
Think that will result in Rings failure and piston slap..

My Daddy taught me this - "Don't throw good money after bad." Be cautious about feeling so bad about what has happened that you make a poor decision about how to solve the problem and end up making it an even worse financial hit. For what its worth, if it were me, I think I would listen to halfassjack above. Swap in a good used engine or part ways. Keep in mind the old blue grass tune: "There's more pretty girls than one." You will find something.

BTW - I'm not sure your assumption about reliability of Ap2 engines v. Ap1 engines is accurate. Maybe - but you would have to prove that to me.

I feel very badly for you. This has been a nightmare for you.

Let us know what you decide to do.

well, the ap2 cylinder production process uses a dummy head, so that could theoretically make for a more reliable engine, at least as far as oil consumption is concerned.

Yep. F20 are notorious for using more oil then the F22 and that's in part to this and likely the improved valve guides on the F22, both of which are a place oil gets lost when tolerances are not up to par. Performance improvement aside, just from the longevity standpoint id run an F22.
