AP1 S2000 Engine ticking - Stumped!!
and you know what else is ridiculous? I've had three shops so far look at the engine and say the engine is "definitely" not even sleeved, and one of them even had the audacity to say he didn't believe the engine had ever been cracked open before... This is such a joke considering how hard it was to remove the connecting rod bolts... Because they had be re-used. So it's definitely not just Assist Motorsports of Stone mountain to blame, but just the fact that most shops actually have no fking clue what they are doing. This is why I don't trust anyone besides myself to work on my car.
i still can't believe the shop machined off the FRM sleeves and knowingly put the original Pistons back in, and wrote on the paperwork that the Pistons were replaced.. That sounds like a lawsuit to me but they are long gone now.

i went ahead and disassembled the whole timing assembly(plan to replace chains and guides while I am so deep in the engine anyways) so the engine spins very freely now and the crank seems to be in great shape, a couple of the shops I've talked to claim I'd be crazy to not remove and machine the crank, but it doesn't appear to have anything wrong with it and it's quite possible the last shop had already machined it then... what do you think is best?

If you want to give your engine extreme health in timing components department, get a new and sprockets.
New guides are a good idea, but have a marginal effect on chain geometry. New sprockets on the other hand will have considerable positive effect on the chain geometry.
Crank needs to be inspected, micd, and possibly polished.

If the crank is in good shape, and all the values check out, I'd get a new piston, and just transfer everything to this block.

Still looking for a used OEM alternative while slowly rebuilding my engine. I figure if i find one before i finish I'll throw in the used engine and sell my rebuilt one. Should be ready to re-assemble my engine here in a week or two and get this car back on the road. No one is going to pay me a damn thing for the rolling chassis so might as well just fix it up and make her pretty.
