Default AP1 Transmissions

Hello. I am just wondering if their was any changes over the AP1 generation within the transmission. I have an 01 with 55K on it and it has a loud rattle on decel at around 3K. (I know about the backlash). Im wondering if the 02/03 transmissions are build differently at all.

Also, what is the trans code...if any.

Thank you!

00-03 trans are the same.

00-01 cars have a noisy clutch that buzzes under decel. look up TSB 00-054

The noise is the clutch, not the trans.

Didnt the early AP1's have a recall and if you were still under the warranty the 2nd gear was fixed...i think it grinded into gear or soemthing....

What would it take to install an ap2 trans in my car?

AP1 transmissions are not all the same. Though the design is basically the same, there was a stacking tolerance issue in the gearsets with early '00-mid'01 transmissions that was resolved in later years. The symptom for this was grinding going into 2nd gear.

As Slows2k mentioned, the deceleration noise is much more likely to be a clutch issue. That is another known concern with early cars. It doesn't affect function, but it is anoying. It occurred on my first MY 2000 car. If the transmission otherwise shifts well, that would be my diagnosis.

When I stated 00-03 transmissions are the same, all the ratios and internal parts are the same. Not all of the 00-03 trans had a clearance issue. I regularly work on several 00-01 cars that have never had any trans issues at all.

thank you guysfor being clear aboutall of this. I agree, the vibration is very annoying. But i am just getting mixed thoughts about the clutch causing the issue. Some guys installed an ACT kit and still have the buzz. So ratehr than installing my same trans once, i would rather do it all at once to 100% be sure the problem will go away.

I ave the time, tools, and patience to do the trans as many times as i want. Bt thee fewer the better haha
