Argh, Another CEL
I have the codes P0170 Fuel trim malfunction and P0172 Running to rich Bank 1.....I have my cat gutted and a MIL eliminator on the o2 sensor in the cat, I was wondering if I should put another MIL eliminator on the front o2 sensor. Would that clear this out? Car is bone stock. I gutted the cat becasue it was bad and rattling everywhere. Would another MIL work on front o2?
The P0170 is a temp DTC, the P0172 is the permanent one.
Don't put a spacer on the front 02 sensor. that will cause even more problems.
There are many different causes for this code. Out of range sensors, bad injectors, screwed up fuel pressure. There is a pretty big list of possibilities. I'd look for a reputable shop to take it to.

well i smell it running rich, and it started doing that whenever I gutted the cat, I put wired in a MIL eliminator on it (just like you do with testpipes) but I only did the o2 sensor in the cat, I was asking if it could still be running rich becasue sensor 1 o2 is still reading it rich, I was thinking if i wired in a MIL eliminator in that one the ecu wouldnt try and make it rich anymore. more imput would be nice

NO. you cannot "cheat" the primary o2 sensor. It is vital to how your ecu mixes "yo stuff". giving it a false reading might result in much more damage. take it to a shop or the dealer or sit on your buttocks until someone with some professional knowledge chimes in.
aside from me. ha ha ha

DO you have a scan tool? Can you tell me what the rear O2 voltage is at @ 3k rpm? If the rear O2 is reading lean, low voltage, it will make the car run rich trying to compensate for the lean reading at the rear O2. Is it possible that the MIL elm is not wired right?

TITLE: Check Camshaft Timing for DTC P0172
APPLIES TO: All models
SERVICE TIP:
Are you getting a DTC P0172 (fuel system too rich) after replacing the timing belt, the autotensioner, or the water pump? The camshaft timing could be off. Check the camshaft timing. If the timing is OK, then do the normal troubleshooting for DTC P0172.

im pretty sure the MIL is wires correctly, heres the story. About a month ago, the CEL was on for a bad o2 sensor and I could smell it running rich, the cat was also making all kinds of noise. I took the cat off to find my o2 sensor end was broken off into my cat and my cat was bad becasue it was making all kinds of noise, so I gutted the cat, bought a universal o2 and put a mil eliminator on it, since then it actually started pulling a rich code, never has before...I thought the mil eliminators were suppose to make the ecu run right, thats why i was wonderin if I needed a mil on the primary o2. I really wish I wouldnt hafto take it to a shop, so if there is anything else I can do here let me know.
thanks
