Default Automatic Daytime running lights

What u guys think about automatic daytime running lights.
Designtech sells an unit that automatically turns on the headlights when the engine is running.

I personally like to have my lights running in the daytime. I think the s2k looks good w/ lights on

the only thing is that they have different units. with one of them you can have them turn on at 75% in daytime or 100% day or night. its not as smart as the system in the Y2k celica where it turns on very dim in the daytime and full power at night and auto off and on.

Be careful with the units that turn on the headlights at reduced power. The units control the level of brightness by reducing the voltage. I'm not sure if reducing the voltage with a true HID system (one which uses a voltage inverter and an ignitor) will simply reduce the light output (my guess is that as the voltage to the inverter is reduced, the lamp will stay pretty much full intensity until it gets to a point where the inverter stops inverting and will not provide enough voltage to support the ignitor, and the light will go out). If you can hook it up to the high beams, it should work fine.

The DRLs in Canada are the hi-beams on a lower voltage. Don't run the HIDs at a lower voltage. They are ballasted and would image they would try to compensate by drawing more current.
