Axle nut, wheel bearing, or something else?

I can't see cdelena as being the type of person who would bother about faking something just to get a warranty claim. (Or is he?

It's not faking it, because it was initally at that torque spec and if it was left at that they would be responsible for worse damage.
So I would put it back to what they want to see it at and let them handle the case. Instead of trying to explain to them what and why you did something.
As you will might know, some dealers will give you a headache for any tampering, and they will look for an escape goat at they're earliest convenience.
Then again, you will find some that are understanding and this isn't a serious issue.

Just a frustrating update.. the noise returned when the bearing gets hot. Took it to the dealership which says they cannot reproduce the symptoms. So I pay for diagnosis but no fix. They claim that once the bearing is removed they cannot determine if it was failing, so I did not authorize a replacement on my dime.
When I have time I will check the torque making sure it is not over tightened and when the noise comes back I, which it will, take it back in.
My warranty expires in four or five weeks so I would like to get this off the list.
