Shingles,

Not to be an ass, but I think part of the heat from your second half of testing may be due to the fact that you didn't shut down and let the engine cool. I know you let it warm up to operating temp for the first run, but that probably wasn't more than 5-8 minutes, right? You still likely build up a lot of that heat afterwards, at least up in the manifold. What do you think?

I've talked to Doug at Hondata who says they have a DXF of the phenolic spacer and are sending off for their first batch this week. He expects to have them in stock within 4 weeks. Based on their current offering, I'd expect a $40 sticker price. This should be of GREAT benefit, lowering IAT quite a bit.

As for the TB bypass, I know on other Hondas this makes the IAC flip out. Doug mentioned that their kit allows for proper "bypass" to fix this. Has anyone noticed any idling or warm-up problems when bypassing the TB on the F20?

Actually, I agree that a lot of heat in the second round could be heat build up. But inorder to have done this test "right" I would have to let the car cool down over nice and start again today. But frankly my test was more of an interest of the air temp at the air inlet with and without the mat, not really the temp at the IAT. But since I coudl get it, I thought I might as well have posted it.

I wonder if "proper" bypass means not completely plugging off the flow that went through the tb.

Fortunately, I have not experienced any warm-up or idle problems, and the car warms up to 3 bars consistently in 3 mi of easy downhill driving each morning.

What's the purpose of heating the TB, even in sub-freezing environments? Emmisions reduction?

It certainly seems like bypassing the coolant flow from the TB is a great, easy way to reduce intake charge temperature and improve power...

Does coolant normally flow to the TB 1) always, 2) only when the thermostat is open, 3) regulated by some other means?

I fabricated a temporary mat and used it at the track this past weekend. The only objective measurement I have is my speed at various places on the track and I would like to think that some of that is attributed to my improving driving.. BUT

Despite ambient temperatures in the 90

Does anyone have pics of this posted somewhere or a description of material used and what areas to cover up?

Thanks in advance.

Agreed. Someone please be specific here- I've been thinking about materials and attachement... haven't thought of something yet that I would really trust to put on. I've been contemplating glassing something in place or re-fabbing the intake box completely.

What effect do you think spraying the airbox and intake tube with a light mist of water might have? Not while the car is in motion of course! I'm thinking about when I AutoX and the car is sitting between runs. I need to get into the habit of popping the hood but am also curious about cooling the airbox down while the car is at rest.
