Bad bearing; replace entire knuckle?
I have a bad bearing on the RR of my MY01 that has started to squeak at low speeds. I was planning on ordering a new bearing and hub, but was wondering if it is just as viable to install a used knuckle with the bearing and hub already installed. This would save me time and money of getting the parts pressed. Is the risk too great with used parts or has anyone done this in the past with success?
I did it, didn't want to bother with having to press bearings. You will need a ball joint separator.
The other thing is if the bearing was failing long enough, it may have put some grooves in the knuckle and it is bad as well, anyway.
Before doing anything, though, make sure and torque your axle nut down using Billman's procedure, the sound may go away.
