Default Bad bearing; replace entire knuckle?

I have a bad bearing on the RR of my MY01 that has started to squeak at low speeds. I was planning on ordering a new bearing and hub, but was wondering if it is just as viable to install a used knuckle with the bearing and hub already installed. This would save me time and money of getting the parts pressed. Is the risk too great with used parts or has anyone done this in the past with success?

You can do that. But knuckles bend too. So be sure you has some refund options for a used knuckle. So it is better to swap your hub/bearing on a known good knuckle.

I did it, didn't want to bother with having to press bearings. You will need a ball joint separator.

The other thing is if the bearing was failing long enough, it may have put some grooves in the knuckle and it is bad as well, anyway.

Before doing anything, though, make sure and torque your axle nut down using Billman's procedure, the sound may go away.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I already tried re-torquing the axle nuts just in case, but the noise still persists. Urban, did you run into any difficulties with separating the ball joints?

No, but the hardest part will be not messing up the threads on the control arm bolts. Be very careful removing and reinstalling the castle nuts and of course make sure to put a cotter pin back in.

For anyone who may care I just got the knuckle swapped tonight and the squeak is no longer there. I may get the old knuckle taken apart and see if it's in any shape to be rebuilt as a spare.
