ball joint nut spins

all you have to do like someone else said is to put the ball joint in the hole and give sqeeze it some how or give it a tap so the tapers lock a little so the joint wont spin

Yes, I used a C-clamp for the very same purpose. In fact, I went out and bought it specifically for this job.

However, I personally would not reuse this part if it is actually damaged. If it's just slipping because you don't have enough friction in the tapered fit, that's one thing. Actual damaged threads are something else.

Keep in mind that if this part breaks at speed, you will crash your car.

There are better ways to remove this FYI.

To hold torque, get someone to stand on the brake disk. Should be enough to hold the taper in.
