Default Blower Motor Sometimes Works?

Just recently got back into town after 3 months and now my blower motor won't turn on at any speed. Sometimes as I'm driving it'll switch on and it'll operate normally, even if I turn the speed to 0 and back on again. But when I turn the car off and back on it almost always won't switch back on. The LEDs for the fan speed control work normally.

My guess is the blower motor might be bad. I've tried knocking the unit under the passenger dash but that's never gotten it to start. I've also seen something about it possibly being the resistor as well. Any suggestions? And anyone got a good video or forum post for testing the blower motor? Thanks in advance

Just realized I was knocking in the wrong spot. Hitting the blower motor does actually get it going, but only on a mid to high range speed. I'll try removing it and cleaning it.

While you are at it, check the electrical connections. I like Deoxit for cleaning and lubricating connectors.

Default Fixed

When pulling out the blower motor I kept it plugged in and ran the fan at the lowest speed (DO NOT DO THIS WITH YOUR FAN SET TO HIGH SPEED THESE MOTORS ARE STRONG AND DANGEROUS). When I tilted the blower motor upside down so the fan was pointing to the floor, it kicked on and worked fine. When I flipped it back around so it was oriented properly (straight up), it turned back off. I thought it might be the electrical connector, but when I tested the connector with my voltmeter it was a steady 11.5V no matter what angle I put the electrical connector at.

The problem was definitely the blower motor. I took it out and did a continuity test similar shown in this video here. I just used the continuity setting on my voltmeter instead of resistance as shown in the video and the majority of the time when spinning my fan around it didn't have continuity between the two motor terminals.

I swapped the fan for one I bought on ebay. Sadly the fan blade of the one I bought on ebay is cracked and it makes ugly sounds at the highest speeds. HOWEVER, it works great as long as it's not on the highest 2 speed settings with circulation on, or highest 3 with circulation off (not sure why there's a difference). It's really nice to have AC when driving in the beautiful hot and humid state of Florida, so I'll probably just swap the fan blades from the old one onto the new one so I don't have to wait for shipping.

Hope someone finds this post useful!
