Default Bouncing off the rev limiter

I've bounced off the rev limiter three times already ... and I really wonder if I'm accidentially killing the engine. It's very easy to do in first, not so much in second.

Anyone?

Rev limiter is there to prevent you from damaging the engine. Hitting it while accelerating is a good thing, as far as I'm concerned . You're fine as long as it doesn't happen from downshifting too far and over-revving the engine.

I have learned to bounce it twice then shift, you get all vtec that way. 3 or more bounces and rev limiter kicks in!

What do you mean? If you 'bounce it' then you've slowed down, as the limiter cuts fuel. VTEC is not like ketchup in a bottle - you can't squeeze any more out...

Yeah -- I agree with vjanot (btw - sweet black ride vjarnot ... got the hardtop?)

I typically hit the limiter becuase I don't realize how high the revs are .. once it kicks in I've lost power, and I assume I'm better off speedwise if I downshift.

What do you mean 'three or more bounces and the rev limiter kicks in'? That bounce IS the rev limiter kicking in, unless there's something you know that I don't ...

I've never had my eyes on the tach when it happens, anything special in the 9000 to 95000 range? does it flash?

what I meant was not to really make it bounce where the fuel cut off is, but let the red line BLINK TWICE before you shift. if you don't know what i'm talking about, watch you redline before it actually bounces back down and see what it does. it WILL blink before the rev limiter cuts in! I meant to say BLINK not BOUNCE sorry??

I hit it.

now and again in 1, 2, and 3.

Understand all cars start degrading once final assembly is complete. Some take the abuse differently then others. The S2000 handles the bounce fairly well.

Gotcha. I'm usually too busy at that point to watch for blinks, but I have seen them - never bothered to count, though.

There's an easy fix to this. Get Modifry's audible upshift indicator. You can custom set it to indicate a shift at redline. This is an awesome mod. It prevents you from having to "peek" at your tach.

Keep your eyes on the road & your surroundings and listen for the "beep" to shift.

You can get more info. at www.baustnet.com
