Default Brake Squeal problem...

I have tried regreasing the shims/pads with no luck. ALL 4 corners have PLENTY of pad left. Everything looks good after examining but I have this awful squeal that I cant seem to diagnose.

It doesnt just squeal in the morning, so its not a 'get them warm' issue. Wierd thing is when it is raining out the squeal is not as bad.

Should I just try replacing all 4 corners? I am out of ideas.

How smooth are the rotors and how smooth are the leading edges of the pads?

And what kind of pads are they?

all but one rotor is smooth. the one rotor has a little groove that seems like something may have been stuck in the pad and indented the rotor in that one spot. but i have checked the pads and there is nothing.

leading edges of pads are smooth/even

oem ap1 pads.

Well, squeal is caused by vibration, and vibration is caused by pads chattering over unsmoothness.

My OEM pads started squealing when the leading edges chunked away from track use.

so if pad thickness is good and i applied more grease. youre implying i either need new pads bc of unsmoothness or resurface rotors correct?

Did you use lube or antivibration paste? The paste hardens into a cushion that absorbs vibrations. The lube will absorb vibrations, but it doesn't take long for it to be squished out since it doesn't cure. Both will burn away eventually.

New pads would probably do it, and of course, machining the rotors or getting new ones is a requirement with new pads IMO. But one thing you can try before all that is chamfering the leading edges of the pads. Again, only a temporary measure.

The only surefire solution is to switch to bitch pads, err, I mean ultraquiet ceramic pads that overheat after a couple hard stops.

yeah i used the grease b/w the shims and pad backplate. i just hate to buy all new pads since my current pads have much meat left.

So don't. OEM pads aren't designed for all out quietness and they may get loud too.
