So I had this compression problem from an overrev, took the whole thing apart, replaced the head gasket w/ a spoon one and upgraded the exhaust valve springs. Everything was super. she ran great, sounded great, it was great. The other day I heard some nasty noises at redline. Check the vafc, somehow it was trimmed to -50 at redline and -10 just before vtec. i.e. the rightmost setting on wide-low and wide-high got bumped WAY too low. put it back where it's supposed to be and reset the ecu.

Now, everything feels normal again except when I go thru vtec crossover and towards redline...she doesn't want to rev past 8500. In third gear she physically WON'T go past 8500. not rev limiter style, it just can't make it. wtf?? power delivery is perfect everywhere in the range except those two spots. Zeroed out everything on the vafc, same deal. ideas?

What exactly is it like if you keep it at full throttle and hit 8500 rpms? Does it stop accelerating slowly, or just hit 8500 and not go anymore?

Bad seal?

Maybe at lower rpms its not building up enough pressure in there, then at the higher RPM's it starts to leak out through the headgasket.
