Yup, it's in the owner's manual that you should check the oil every time you fill up the gas. However, that's in the owners manual of almost every car. The difference is, in the S2000 they mean it.

How you drive makes a difference, too. You can burn an entire quart of oil in a 200 miles out on the track, or maybe half that in 1500 street miles.

However, I don't see any connection between broken retainers and low oil.

Yes, it's in the owner's manual. And it's in every single owner's manual of every car I've ever owned.

One good policy is to check your oil at least weekly, and don't forget to check tire pressure too.

I think it is... But, in any case, so sorry for your problem. We (here at s2ki) try to tell everyone about this issue, but I guess you didn't get the word. The way these engines are constructed, they tend to burn oil, some more than others. You have to check the oil (and top off) pretty much every 300-500 miles (it varies). Normal consumption for an AP1.

Not that this helps you, but In 2004, or thereabouts, Honda found a different way to bore the cylinder linings, and the AP2 cars don't have as much of an appetite.

chazmo is right. They bolt a dummy head to the block, and then bore. That way, the cylinders are a more perfect circle AFTER a head is torqued on rather than BEFORE.

in my opinion honestly, dont put a 9k rev limit if they dont expect for this kinda shit to happend....sorry about ur problems, wether u did over rev or not, only you know and its all on you to handle the way u see fit. All i can say is good luck, but if its your error i strongly suggest you fix with your own cash. cause you never know it could kick you in the ass later.i misshifted my car 2x's and over reved.....dont have a problem. later man.

I mis shifted MY05 in the morning after my birth day on the way to work. I think i was still a little drunk, but didnt realize it. Anyways the car still runs but now it seems to have a louder valve chater than normal. It drove fine the last three days, and I took it in for valve train nspection today. Wouldn't suprise me to have cracked retainers as well. Good luck w/the dealer, I know I'll need it as well. Do the 05 ecu log mechanical over revs or not? I have red conflicting infomation in different threads. If it doesn't then I might get covered by warrenty...

Good to inspect the retainers, dig. Could save you headaches in the future. I'm not sure if the problem shows up right away though.

I'm not certain if / when Honda introduced that into the ECU.
