Very little to be gained here. The string trick will work fine for getting a smaller belt.

Those of you who have used underdrive pulleys and light weight flywheels know that every little bit of rotating mass makes a difference. Not to mention the weight loss from removing the A/C compressor, condenser, fan, and other A/C components. Plus the improved air flow to the radiator should improve cooling system efficiency. Some real gains for very little cost.

If you are going to put the shorter belt on there, are you going to remove all the A/C components altogether? The system will not last long if you never run it, since all the seals will dry up. Might as well just go ahead and pull out all the extra weight.

I think the alternator might be something to consider discoing as well. For track use only obviously. It helped on my old Starlet. This car had no power to begin with with only 58hp so it seemed like night and day with the ac and alternator discoed.

I think the alternator is going to be a mandatory item, even for an autocross. The electronic power steering, ABS, and electronic ignition would drain our tiny batteries VERY quickly.

I'd only take it off for short time periods, so I doubt the seals would dry that quickly. Never the less I'd like to see if there is anything to gain.

I was thinking more along the lines of the drag strip. You could run a 1/4 mile no problem. I wonder if the car would even run though with all the technical stuff going on in there.

I personally think the s2k has much potential as a street drag car but of course many people don't. Though I am sure once more time passes you'll see pretty good products come out to reinforce or replace weak aspects of the s2k. To label this car as a cone killer or road race car isn't right in my opinion at all.
