Default Cams overheated loss of oil

Ok guys so my cams are trashed due to lack of oil. One thing I noticed was that the bolt that holds the cam gear on was loose. For awhile I have heard a rattle from my timing chain tensioner going bad. I was wondering if that could have contributed to my problem at all. It started about 2 months ago car would stall and hesitate to start back up. Had the car down for a couple days to replace a leaking fuel injector. Well when I went to drive it back home from the shop ( about 50 miles away ) the car stalled when coming to a stop about 15min into the trip. Car started back up but hesitated again, kept driving got about another 20min into the the trip and was about 4 miles away from my house when the car stalled coming up to a stop sign. Tried starting the car, no luck got a friend to come give me a jump, no luck. I don't remember my oil light ever coming on and the car never overheated. I've pulled the head and going to just replace the head I'm worried about the bottom end though. What are the chances I messed up anything else? And what could cause a loss of oil to the cams (besides that bolt being loose ) while driving I never got on it or revved it up much as I was just trying to get to the house. I never heard any sounds out of the ordinary either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wouldn't a bad oil pump cause loss of oil to the whole motor not just the cylinder head? And how do I check the oil pump?
