Car blipping by itself???!?!
Keep in mind this car is only 1 week old and has a little over 300 miles on it. I checked for hoses and screws that might have come loose but everything was on tighter than a "jimmy hat". The problem has not reoccurred since that faithful drive. So now I'm even more confused than before. Anyway thank you all for your extremely helpful replies.
That little mileage? How's your coolant level. Both in the Rad and in the overflow bottle. Low coolant commonly causes that. If it was low but then sucked some out of the overflow bottle, the problem would go away.
Don't worry about it! Your ECU is adjusting. OBD-II is trying to compensate for a variation between your LTFT and STFT (Long and Short Term Fuel Trim).
I know exactly what you're talking about.
Unlike RT's scenario, the abrupt go-and-stop action when lightly on the throttle from a stop happened to me for the first time in my '02 just this past weekend and also occurred with a little more frequency in the '01 I had last year.
It usually happens when I'm idling in stop-and-go traffic in hot and cold weather [cold being 50 degrees out with sun beating down on the car; only happened on one occassion; on my '02 a couple of days ago]. I didn't have to go so far as to shutting down, but I just put the clutch in and try to start slowly and repeat if necessary.
Don't be concerned about it if what you went through is similar to what I went through. If the car's "blipping" with no user input at all (i.e. light application of throttle from a stop), then I'm not familiar.
As for my experience with the "blipping" thing, it's when I'm on the throttle from a stop. I've heard of numerous other accounts of such S2000 behavior. MAP sensor, just the nature of the car, who knows. It happens so infrequently, I'd rather not have the service guys take over the car and mess with it. I'll deal and live.
My '02 had the typical clutch rattle and 1-2 grind on occassion when having run hot. My '02 shows no signs of either.
This car is choice.
