Default Car randomly turns off

I have an 01, the mileage is a bit high (136,xxx currently) and I am having an issue with the cars RPM's dipping low enough to turn the car off.

I recently adjusted the throttle cable, and after that it idled funny but it ended up calming down.

Now it idles up and down at time and putting the clutch in while rolling up to a traffic light or something the idle will dip very low and kind of 'shutter' the car and jump back up.

Now sometimes the car is turning itself off, and not giving any issues or signs of it not wanting to restart right afterwards. And its random, I don't have to drive hard take a turn or anything..

I tried to do the map whack, and it could be me but it seemed like it helped but it went back doing the same thing.

Any ideas or suggestions, I think this bitch is haunted.

Why would you adjust the throttle cable?

I just had this problem, the car was struggling to hold idle at 900 rpms or so. Eventually the car shut down. I pulled over, unplugged the map sensor and gave it a few taps on top. Started the car, rev'd to 6K rpm, got on the street, hit Vtec and all is good now.

try pulling the fuse for the ecu...ive read that this can help when map whack doesnt...when did you adjust the cable? the ecu will slowly learn how to adapt so it is good to let the car do what it needs to do, i.e. turn off to adjust to low rpm, so if you did this recently, i would see how it acts after maybe 5 start up and drives..even changes in weather can send the ecu on a trip

Some of us are having the same issue in the FI section. We have the Greddy turbo kit with the Emanage ECU and we have the exact same issue. I was thinking it was a bad tune on the piggy-back ECU, but if people are having the same issue on the non-FI sections then I think I may investigate the MAP issue.

Anyone have any links on how people dealt with this issue? I heard people were moving the MAP sensor somehow, but I didn't see any follow up.

Thank you all.

^ hey man. I think your problems the turbo kit, yep it is. I recommend you removing it and sending to me and I'll test for ya

but yeah the car is random when it does it, it did it twice yesterday but not yet as of today.

I tightened the throttle cable because it had more slack than I liked, I read the ecu adjust itself and I drive alot everyday so it has had plenty of time.

The only other thing I've done is install a PLX M250 wideband but that isn't connected to my ecu at the moment and the sensor isn't installed yet so it's basically only getting power. I can't think of anything else, it seems to have come along after I adjusted the cable?..

Maybe try cleaning the IAC valve. It has helped mine and others with these symptoms.

Ditto the IAC, it's the root of your coming down to idle problems.
