Still sounds like a bent/stuck valve with the puffing. Did you ever do a compression test?

If you don't have a SC, try this:
Remove the serpentine belt. (easy enough)
There is a pulley on the front of the engine, top, it is not connected to a pump or anything, has a ball bearing in it. Spit it. listen to what it sounds like. Should not make a 'grating' sound.
Sping the A/C compressor pulley too. Not the outside part, but the one the belt is actually riding on. If you run over some debris, and 'somehow' they hit that pulley, it might make a really weird noise.

im completing a compression check this weekend to see if i can get any more info. My camera was stolen so I cant get a video.
edit: i might just start out replacing the retainers with ap2 ret. Would a cracked retainer cause bad compression in 1 cylinder? its not total loss of compression, but I can feel it, its lower in 1 of them. Car just doesnt run smooth.

oh and there is no CEL. i was doing a 3 hour search on here. and i came to the conclusion that most of the time if you have a burnt/bent valve you will throw a cell. Also, will cracked retainers cause low compression/miss. Doing a compression check 2morrow

Compression Test Results
#1- 247
#2- 249

woooooooohooooo
So I spent a good 45 min tracking down exactly where the noise was comming from. Sounds like something around the injectors sucking air? I sprayed some starting fluid around the injectors and the motor didnt rev. Replace?

wow thats an extremely consistent test result. I think your just finally noticing that the f20/22c is a loud motor and the valvetrain makes a lot of noise. Also the injectors do have a fairly prominent tick. Judging by the fact you tracked the noise down to around the injectors, I think it is a safe bet you are just being noise paranoid like myself and many others. I would wait for someone more technically inclined to chime in, just my 2 cents brotha.
