Default Car won't start

I drove to work, its quite the commute and when I got to work, before I even left the car I tried to turn it on again. It sounded so sluggish. A long drawn out turnover sound and no start. It was such a drawn out sound though, I couldn't imagine the car starting at all. I'm assuming its the battery? If it was the starter, I'm assuming it would sound normal or something. It sounds very weak, like a toy that is low on batteries.

edit - When I turn the key though, the stereo and such come on fine, all the lights/etc, so I'm still uncertain.

edit - seems like the problem was just being low in oil.

Low on oil?? I really doubt that was the problem.

Battery is more likely. And the battery may have enough juice to run the lights and radio, but not to turn the car over.

Easy test...try jumpstarting the car. If that works, then it's your battery.

Low on oil .. Care to explain!
If you finished your commute with a quart of oil in the pan I think there may be a possibility of serious internal friction causing the starter to drag and hinting at a trashed engine. Sounds most likely to be battery / alternator related.

^ Sola77 looks like you have had some really nice rides.

As far as the topic goes have you checked the alternator output? The battery load when trying to crank over the engine? The voltage of the battery with the car off? Or maybe even a draw on the battery? Try doing some of these tests, if your not sure what your doing with it your best bet would be taking it to a respected shop before it leaves you stranded.

Low on oil!? Check the battery, however I recommend that you slightly knock all fuel injectors.

The oil could be coincidental, but it seems to be working fine now. Dunno what the problem was, honestly, I'm having it looked at monday morning though, so I'll have him check my battery/etc
