Cylinder number and firing order are two different things... the cylinders are numbered in order as far as the codes (p0301, p0302, etc.) are concerned, but the cylinders fire as follows:1,3,4,2. See This link Since the misfire followed the coil, I think you have your answer! Good luck and I hope that's the end of the issues and you can get back to enjoying your s2k

Thanks for the Link. Just to clarlify. P0302 is cylinder #2 misfire and I need to replace that coil right? I swapped the coil from cylinder #2 to cylinder #1 and the code went from P0302 to P0301.

Based on your last post, it looks like the coil pack is bad. If the CEL followed the changing of the coil pack, than that is most likely the culprit.

Yes, P0302 would mean that you need to replace the coil in cylinder #2 (assuming you swapped it back into cylinder 2 after testing it in cylinder 1).

Ok a quick update, I drove the car for 20 miles after clearing the cel and now the cel came back up with 6 codes from p0300 to p0304, p1399, and p0410. Would loose valves cause this?

You mentioned that you have 100k miles on your s2k... have the valves ever been adjusted? If not, you need to adjust them anyway and then proceed with troubleshooting. You don't want to drive the car too much with it misfiring as it can damage your catalytic converter and will dilute your oil with fuel. Adjust the valves ASAP (search the forum and/or google for write ups) and let us know how the car is running at that point.

I did the VA and all were good except cylinder 3 exhaust was tight and cylinder 2 intake was very loose. I'm going to be rechecking the clearance again and would the motor be okay with the valve cover off till this weekend? (I did do a tight cover on the motor with a t-shirt)

Yeah the motor will be fine as long as you have it covered so that nothing can fall/crawl into it.
