Default CEL and EPS

I've had a couple of times the CEL light start flashing as I get to about the VTEC point, but I backed off straight away and the light goes away after a couple of seconds. Each time I wasn't accelerating hard so I'm not at all sure if there was any loss of power or not.

So today I've found a paper clip and tried to read the codes. First time nothing, but then I realised that as I'd started the engine for 30 seconds to move the car, so I'm guessing that only the last "session" is stored in these circumstances.

So I start the car to go for a drive to see if I can get the fault to happen, but straight away the CEL light starts flashing.

Paper clip to the ready, and get some codes. BUT: It's not the CEL light that flashes a code but the EPS. It says 72, and 20. If they were CEL codes it would be cylinder 2 misfire and electrical load detector, but the list of EPS codes I found on here didn't contain those codes.

So the question is: if there is an EPS fault would that cause the CEL light to flash, or are the two completely independent and I've got two seperate faults?

I did think the steering seemed heavy, but as I've been driving another car with much lighter steering than the S anyway I figured it was just me.

Thanks.

Mine's a 99 JDM.

Scratch that. I did the procedure again, and this time the CEL did have something to say. 72 and 74, which I believe is just misfire in cylinders 2 & 4 which isn't that helpful in itself.

Are you sure it wasn't your oil pressure light?

No, if there was DTC it would remain stored in memory.

Stop starting your engine, if your CEL is flashing you shouldn't be running the engine at all.

There are seperate lists of DTC codes for ABS, EPS, SRS. Sounds like you are looking up the wrong DTC's

Completely independent. You have multiple problems and DTC'c for seperate systems.

You may at this point want to try and have someone with the OEM or equivalent scan tool try to help you figure out what is going on. If your CEL is flashing don't drive it. Maybe consider a flatbed to the dealer. Good luck

p0302 and p0304 would be a bad thing. Reset it and see if they come back.
