Default To change or not to change?

Need advice.

Well, it has been three months since I bought my S and I am enjoying it every second. I bought it at 115k (all highway) miles and now it has 117k. I was able to tell immediately that the car was rarely ever abused. Ever since then, I have learned a lot from the boards and don't ever plan to stop. I was reading up on maintenance on transmission and differential fluids and their change intervals so that made me wonder about mine. I simply emailed the previous owner (first owner) if they had changed it or not and he claims that the only fluid changed that were made was the engine oil, brake, clutch, other engine bay fluids. None to the differential/transmission. The information he told me was hard to believe because the transmission still shifts fairly smooth, even on cold mornings, and the car sits completely still at a stop light..no shaking or anything. I imagined that the diff would've been at least rebuilt by now because supposedly "not strong" but it hasn't.

Should I change it or not?

I will probably go with Mobil 1 75w-90 for the diff and Honda Genuine MTF for the transmission if I do go for the change.

It will not hurt anything if you change it. Make sure to pick up new washers. Part numbers are in the DIY stickys.

You should change it. I had a similar incident with MY00 (73,000 miles) from the previous owner. I ended up changing all of the fluids and the car runs like a champ. Transmission feels a lot smoother as well. It only takes like 45 maybe less to change Transmission and Differential fluids.

I was in a similar situation. I drained the tranny/diff fluid which came out pristine, but the Amsoil still made it even better.

Now I sound like i'm drinking the koolaid...but that was my experience. I think i'm going to go 75w140 next time around.

Thanks for the quick replies. I am still open minded for the oil choices. Most likely will use Mobil 1 75w-90 or Amsoil 75w-110, I don't know yet. Ill make an order on everything on Handa-Accessories tomorrow evening.

Considering that Honda recommends 30K intervals (IIRC) and that 30K can be long depending on how the car is driven, definitely change it. I wouldn't recommend relying on feel especially if you haven't experienced it right after a fluid change.

...and there are countless threads you can read on any of the fluids.

Definitely change them.

Great fluid choice. All I use, as do all my customers.

I bottle for the dif. Two bottles for the trans.

^^This. Same thing I use. Doesn't hurt to change the fluids and start following the manuals stated maintenance schedule.
