Changing the A/C Micron Filter (Pics)
I changed my engine and cabin air filters today with approximatley 22,000 miles on my S2. Both were filthy. I used a 3/16 socket as it came to hand more easily than a 5mm. It worked like a charm. Getting the new filter lined up and inserted properly wasn't a problem. Now all I need is some decent weather - it has been raining and snowing for days.
At just over 89k miles now...this thread reminded me that I need to complete the change...*AGAIN*!!!
I should have a new one in by the middle of next week and I plan to take pictures of the replacement.

I changed mine today, was kind of shocked how dirty it was considering my car is a 2003 with 27,000 miles on it. I rarely use the AC, but I run the fan at all times.
Easy swap, thanks for the tip on that 5mm socket.

I just replaced the AC micron air filter @ 26742 miles... and I should've done it at least 7K miles ago!
it was utterly filthy, and considering that it only costs $20 from handa-accessories.com, I'm going to be changing mine every 20K miles from now on.
one thing that airgate might want to add to his instructions on the first page:
When reinserting the air filter housing, there is a tab on the back of the housing that fits into a slot/lip (I'm not sure which, hard to see back there) that keeps the back of the filter flush to the opening. If, after snapping the front of the filter down, you are able to lift the back of it up, you have not properly installed the filter, and unfiltered air will just come in through the gap in the back.
I also changed the engine air filter at the same time, and it was pretty dirty as well, but might've been ok to last until 30K miles.

Just wanted to say thanks for the directions. Changed mine on my 02 w/ 18500 miles on it. The filter was absolutely disgustingly filthy! I should have taken a picture b/c it was far worse than the ones I've seen posted here.
Holy cow am I glad we kept bringing this thread back. I've got a bunch of maintenance to do on my car soon (coming up on 30k), and this is now added to my list. I can't wait to see what mine looks like! Ewwwww...
The filter I just took out is indescribable. Most of the lines were clogged w/ dirt, feathers, and small leaves. No light was visible, not even a sinlge ray. It was 100% clogged. (It hasn't been changed for 50k
)
Definitely change it every 15-20k..geez.
