Default Check Engine Light

I need some help here...
monday night on my way home from work my check engine light came on.. so i got home, disconnected my battery for a few minutes. once i plugged it back in the light was off, so i felt like everything was fine. wake up tuesday morning drive to work.. everything is good !!! tuesday night on way home from work it comes on again, almost around same area. so i call a friend and he said to tap on my Map Sensor a few times.. so i disconnect battery, give the map sensor a lil beating... few minutes later i plug battery back in.. everything is fine.. wednesday to & from work no problems... tonight on way home my light came on AGAIN.

i'm about to go unplug the battery, remove the gas cap & put it back on (past 4 clicks) & then tap on the Map Sensor for a bit.. then plug battery back in. however if the light does happen to come back on tomorrow.. does anyone have any suggestions? or know any way i can find out what it is rather than paying a shop crazy funds to run a diagnostics?

thanx

Any modification you've done recently? Also what year is your S and have you taken your car into honda for all the TSB?

Too bad you can't get a hook up on diagnostics... I go into honda and they pull my car back and pull out the codes for free...

car is a 00' w/ 62k miles... most mods are cosmetic (rims, lower, lip).. but engine-wise is just a Spoon Intake & Exhaust

i wish i would have seen this a few mins ago.. i already unplugged stuff. so i guess i'll have to wait for the CEL light to come on again before i can use it. but basicaly (cause i'm an idiot...)
find that connector... bend a paperclip from the first pin (closest to the driver side tire) & connect it into one of the two middle pins on the top side (closest to the front seat)... correct?

It's posts like this that made me retire as Forum Moderator for Under the Hood. Thanks XV for unwittingly taking my spot. So why do you keep disconnecting your battery? It won't make a problem go away, as you have found out, ....and will make it really difficult for a qualified tech. to tell you what is wrong with you car. For you see there are many types of codes in OBD-II. As the other member noted most dealers will pull codes for free. So will most shops....just ask them if they can pull down OBD-II which is what this car runs on. Or if you really want to go out on a limb spend some money and pull your own codes: http://www.obd-2.com/. Then you can find out what is wrong for free and ask a question worth answering.

P.S. Many an ECU has been fried with the paper clip noted.....and that my friend is not a cheap part!
OBD-I=Paperclip
OBD-II= Computer Software

Reset the ECU last night.. gonna wait for light to come back on & take it to a shop and have them run a code.

Chad...good luck man, hope its nothing serious. If it was your map most likely it wouldn't throw a code. Hopefully its something minor.

I hate to overlook the obvious. But, are you sure that you are tightening the gas cap three clicks when you fill up with gas? There is a warning right on the gas cap but three clicks is really tight!
