Default Check engine light

I recently bottomed out of some railroad tracks at a high speed and I damaged my 02 sensor on the cat. The check engine light is on and the code they pulled confirmed the damage to the 02 sensor. We reset the ECU and as soon as I had started it, the light flared right back on. My question (one of three) is can I drive the car hard while the light is on?! My other question is will a 02 sensor off the manifold (shorter wires which I know you know) work for the cat if the wires were to be extended?! What other 02 sensors can I use besides the OEM?! Not to be cheap but is there a other sensor from another brand I can use?! Thanks for you're time it is very appreciated!

Kind regards,
Joe

Your car won't explode or anything. You may have also damaged the catalytic converter as well as the sensor.

I believe the car will go into limp mode if the check engine light is on, so you won't be getting the full performance of the car. Or is that only for certain instances?

just get a testpipe with a new o2 sensor. If you running a damaged o2 sensor car be hard to crank over u will be drinking alot of gas. another term "limp mode"

if the oxygen sensor is damaged, the signal sent to the ecm which varies the duration of fuel being injected will be off. basically meaning that you won't get efficient gas mileage. did they mention if it's the primary or secondary sensor?

well i believe factory uses a bosch oxygen sensor. i'm not sure about that. anyways the list price for those are $280.83. i could get you one for $238.71. pm me if interested.
