Clicking/Clunking Noise While In Reverse!
When I back my S out of my driveway I can hear a clinking/clunking noise from the rear. My driveway is at an angle and I only hear then, Has anyone else heard this? If so, what could be the problem and possible solutions.
Thanks,
Lloyd

Car "noises" are extremely difficult to diagnose even for a mechanic but on the internet, it can be even more difficult. You might have to supply more details. I'm not saying that I'll have the answer for you but if you supply as much detail as possible, someone might be able to offer suggestions.
Is your driveway angled up or down (ie, are you backing up or down)?
Does the driveway have a sharp bend in it?
Is the car coasting with the clutch in or is it under power?
When does the noise quit or does it quit?
Is the noise relative to wheel speed or engine speed?
Is your brake applied or partially applied when it makes this noise?
Does this happen every time you back the car or only some of the time?
If only some of the time, did you wash the car since the last drive?
(See what I'm getting at?)

Oh sorry if I wasn't more specific.
I only hear this noise when I am backing down the driveway. I back out in a diagonal path across part of the lawn. The car is coasting backward and the noise quits when I proceed to drive the car forward. Happens every time I back out of the driveway.
I did a search and some other owners were saying that they experienced this noise also. Some said that they retorqued the axle bolts and checked the axle splines?

It could be your brake pads grazing the rear rotor - not a bad thing if this is what it is. Next time you back out, try to gradually and lightly pull up on the hand brake (with thumb on button) and see if the noise changes in any way. If it does, you've found your noise and you shouldn't concern yourself with it anymore.
Also, later in your drive, find another hill and roll backwards down in a similar manner as when you leave your house and see if the noise is still there once things get warmed up a bit. Your brakes should have changed character just enough that they shouldn't make the same noise. If it still does it, you'll have to consider something else, maybe wheel bearing or CV joint, but these usually get worse as they heat up.
Or it could something as simple as a rock or nail head wedged into your tread and you just can't hear it anymore once you get going. Of course, this would be equatable to one click per tire rotation.
