Clunk from rear end when stopping
I’ve been hearing this weird clunk from the rear end for a while now. I'm not sure whether the sound is a metal-to-metal clunk. It is rather a clunk from the rear end similar to one that you would hear when you quickly put the car in first gear when it’s not moving.
The clunk happens as the car slows down when coming to a stop. Here is what it takes to make that noise:
Coming to a stop -> put car in neutral -> release clutch -> clunk at ~5-7mph right before stopping.
Or
Coming to a stop -> put car in neutral -> hold down the clutch until the car stops -> release clutch once at complete stop -> clunk and there is a small force pushing the car forward by a couple of inches or less
I have done the following to try to solve this problem:
- Transmission fluid changed with Honda MTF
- Differential fluid changed with Mobil 1 Synthetic 75W-90
- Bleed clutch fluid with Honda Brake fluid
- Removed and tightened rear axle nuts
I'm out of ideas of what to do next. The car is a MY2000 with 114k miles and on its original clutch. Could it be that the clutch components are on their way out? The clutch does not slip at all even when I put the car in high gear at low speed and floor it. There is also no play in the halfshaft either. Any input is greatly appreciated!

Try torquing the wheel hub bolts, if you feel it coming from the rear, it could be those bolts not being torqued enough. Try greasing the axle spline that goes to the hub, and torquing the bolts to the correct specs. (Which I believe is 250 ft/lbs but i'm not certain)
