is it like a vibration from transmission coming up thru the shifter?
Yep, that's it exactly. Someone wrote a blog on the science of how and why it does it. Way to technical for my feable brain. Bottom line - it vibrates, the transmission ampliflies the sounds and since it sits between the two seats, you notice it pretty quick. And it's worse with the top up because the sound is amplified.

I am looking at getting some Quietcar and coating under the carpet and console to reduce the sound. (type quietcar in the search tool and you'll get the goguge on it. looks impressive)

I took my car to S&R, the local performance shop in Tampa, and had them look at it. They verified that there was no metal shavings or anything. So other than the sound, I am good to go.

To those that have an original clutch in your 02 and later car, the noise made under decel is nowhere close to the noise made by the 00-01 clutches.

If people aren't asking what's wrong with your car, you don't have the TSB054 buzz. If you have it, they will ask you what's broken.

The Clutch buzz in a 00-01 car is unbelievably loud.

That's what I figured. Mine is quite faint and I can not notice it with the top down or the stereo on.

I just bought a 2000 S with a lot of clutch buzz. Can I go into the dealership and get them to replace it? Does it have to be under warranty? I just had my taillights replaced through a recall and was wondering if the clutchbuzz can be done also.

The TSB 00-054 would only be covered if the car was still under the factory 3 year 36K warranty.

I have a similar problem, but i don't know if its my clutch. It only happens in 6th gear and it sounds like something is rubbing/grinding. It only happens after I hit like 80 and then let go of the accelerator and then i hear it. In neutral i hear nothing so it can't be my tires. My question is, is it the clutch going out?
