i was driving my ap1 home from work and went to take it out of 6th and put in neutral, all of a sudden the clutch just sank to the floor. i pulled off the road and decided to pump the clutch a little bit, it got stiff and went soft again. I got out to check my master cylinder, it was empty. luckily the gas station i pulled into had dot 3 brake fluid. i topped it off and pumped it some more, still nothing happened. i got out and looked underneath my car, only to find that the fluid was leaking. i figured i might need to change the slave. therefore i did change the slave cylinder. after i swapped out my slave i noticed that the clutch fork wasn't really holding in place every time i kept trying to keep it with the roller pin. is the clutch slave cylinder supposed to keep the fork in place to engage and disengage the clutch? im so confused, i tried looking up threads about the clutch release hanger being broken, but i cant find any helpful posts... any help would be great. thanks


oh and the clutch is a 6 puck. i dont know exactly what kind of clutch it is since it came with the car, it also has about 95k miles

 

Clutch fork will stay in place all by itself.

 

if you didn't bleed the clutch after you topped it off, you couldn't feel a difference cuz you still had air in the line.

 

well i found out what happened, my clutch release hanger broke, man dropping the tranny is gonna be a b****

 

?? How do you know it broke with the transmission on? Could it be that the fork just got loose from the hanger???? It comes free from just pulling the fork anyway.

 

That part you say is broken is steel. Be sure its broken...hope its not the trans case itself.

yeah i put the fork in place, but it just fell out again. i will be repairing it this saturday. i will try to post pics up here when i get done. i had a friend come check it out. he said that it is definetly the hanger

 

Damn, thats pretty crazy.. It was a pita dropping my trans. I just replaced the clutch. It's not really hard, its just time consuming!

 

There is a little metal clip inside of the main bracket that actually springs the fork into the bracket and holds it there. You may have broken that little clip or it popped out if the fork won't stay in the hangar.

But you have to drop the transmission regardless. Get some high temp urea grease from Honda and grease the throw out bearing while your at it at the very least. If your clutch is old, it might be worthwhile to go ahead and replace the friction disc while its all out.
