Change the fluid a few times. That might fix it.

couple days ago, I couldn't shift into 1st, reverse, I would grind gears on occasion, shifter felt knotty, unsmooth, clutch release point felt completely loose. Checked the clutch master cylinder, the fluid was practically empty. So I picked up some dot3 brake fluid, refilled, I was able to shift into first and reverse again, it wasn't completely smooth but it was a lot better than before. Took it for a drive, it progressively got better and my shifts and clutch peddle were a lot more responsive.
After this, I changed out the transmission oil with Honda MT oil ($8 a quart at the dealer) and shifter was ALOT smoother, no more knotty shifting.
And to top things off, I regreased the shifter, which made an even greater difference in shifting, like cutting butter with a knife
After all this, my shifting felt better than when I first got the car and it was a night and day difference. I thought my clutch had gone bad, but a combination of all 3 of these, sure fixed things up!

Changing the clutch fluid can often repair leaks, do it a couple times if the fluid is really dirty when cleaning out the master cylinder.

Where you able to determine if there was some freeply in the clutch rod or if it was overly tight ?. I don't think the leaky fluid is the reason for the slipping clutch on it's own.

I agree. If the hydraulic system for the clutch doesn't work, then it makes it so you can't disengage the clutch. It means you won't be able to get it into gear. But once in gear, it's the pressure plate which is doing the work to prevent slipping.

The reason that making sure you have a little free play in the clutch rod is important is because you want to make sure that the hydraulic system isn't partially active and thereby fighting the pressure plate when it shouldn't be.

Also worth mentioning to do it over a series of a few days since it takes a little driving and clutch use to fully cycle the fluid.
First time I did it I thought I'd be good just pumping 20-30 times between drain/fills. Wasted a bottle that way.

If you are looking just for grip and avoiding slippage during quick shifts, the consensus seems to be an ACT pressure plate to double the gripping power. If you are looking to do a bit more, check into replacing the AP2 flywheel with the lighter AP1 for more pep in the revs.
