Could it be that it's a Jap import and the way they've gone about converting the speedo to MPH has upset the ECU?

Still got this issue guys.

I've tried everythign, i'll replaced the VSS, i've replaced the speedo itself, there is continuity between the wiring in the harness, the wires have the voltages they say they should in the manual.

I'm at a loss with it - the most odd thing being that the speed work perfectly at all times.

Could it be something else? As my car is a 1999 Jap import model and there for OBD1 (although it has the OBD2 style connector under the dash) are the error codes for the OBD1 and OBD2 systems different??
