Damn!!! not what I wanted to see. Hoping I'll get good miles out mine, and that the cracking issue is a 1-off and doesn't impact the DBW coilpacks.

Was looking at the 2006-2009 prices and they seem to clock in around $200 on the usual Honda Parts sites.
Any ideas?

So is the worry that it's the '00-'04 ECU + "R" coils that's a bad combination? I skimmed the posts and I think that was the concern some had (especially since the manual says don't do that).

But anyway, I've got the same question as you. I've also got the R coils in my '02 f20 so maybe I should take them out and inspect? Would I even see anything obviously wrong? My suspicion is they would just fail in a very obvious way.

<shrug> The car's seen numerous track days and lots of street driving without any issues. Knock wood.

I have seen 00-05 cars come in with the R coils, I have not seen any problems myself.

I am only going off of the warning in the OEM service manual.

I have seen people order non-R coils, and get R coils. Did these cracked ones have the raised square?

No R marking on those. They are NGK so not sure if the markings would look the same. These do not have any embossing on the sides, just the printing on the tops of them

So new coils from Honda arrived today. I ordered the 04-05s which came up as 30520-RRA-S01. They DO have an R on them but no raised square. They are -115 R but DO have one of the ribs shown in the service manual (bottom per the picture posted earlier in the thread) but no rib on the upper right corner as oriented like that picture. None of this seems to be very consistent!

Every source I check this number on says it is for an 04-05 S2k among other hondas. So should be correct. But the markings just make this confusing. I do not have a set of known good original AP1 coils to match up the resistance measurement to

Can you post a photo of the "R" with no raised square?

Merci beaucoup!

This is what I received. Now maybe I am misunderstanding where this raised square is supposed to be? But when I run the number that is stamped on the coil I also come back to the 04-05 S2000 being an application. Nothing showing they are for an 06+. I am thinking when they superceded some old part numbers their whole convention about the ribs, square, etc may have changed.

Looking at the top and comparing that snippet from the shop manual, this has one of the ribs shown but not the other

Thanks for the photos. And yes, it is confusing,

I hope that they last for you!
