Default Cold Engine Rev Limiting

Does the ECU limit revs BELOW 9K rpm when the engine is cold? I seem to remember a dealer saying something like that, but forgot about it until I tried to VTEC right out of the parking lot at work the other day.
Thanks for the info.

It is fun to put your face on the windshield first thing in the morning! Enjoy your new car but let it warm up first.

Three bars on the temp or the fuel cuts off.

When you're sleepy in the morning, nothing works better at waking you up than hitting the limiter ...

How could I describe it ... the feeling of hitting a brick wall.

Yep, that's the one. It's an especially keen feeling when you are sort of leaning forward anticipating VTEC. Good thing it's soft leather on the steering wheel.

Please be kind to your engine. Until the engine is properly warmed up (usually 5-10 minutes after 3 bars first show up), you can place a lot of wear on the internal parts.

Actually I have heard conflicting stories. my 2001 rev limits at 9,000 regardless of temperature however the vtec will not kick in until the car is at three bars. I have heard that some 2000 cars rev limit at 6000 when cold. Need to search the manual.

My seatbelt tensioner tells me the '02 is rev limited. I do baby my engine most of the time, especially when cold, buy, hey, VTEC happens. The ECU probably sensed that I punched it because I was coming up on a Mustang Cobra, and it knew better.

Utah's Tech Tip of the Day:
The car doesn't give a damn if you have 2-3 or 4 bars. V-TEC solenoid relates to oil pressure. The viscosity of Honda oil hits the majic number at about 3 bars.........
