Default cold start up grind

Hi guys,
I'm about to pick up an ap1 but i was just wondering what the cause of this noise would be:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=_nSoTfw3rrk

It only happens under cold starts.. repeats itself everytime the car starts up until it is warm..

After doing some searching, it seems that everyone thinks its the TCT or the starter.

What do you guys think and is it something easily fixed?

i let go of the ignition button sooner, right before the engine starts up, seems to put the grind to rest. its so simple yet it took me a while to figure out, maybe itll work on your ride too

Seems like you're holding down the button a little too long. The starter is still engaged for a split second too long after the engine has already started.

stuck starter, you can grease it up and put it back it or buy a new one.
happen only cold start and very often in the winter.

it's labor intensive for a small part

yes its a sticking starter bendix. If you are going through the trouble of greasing up the starter you might as well put a new one in. The longer you leave it grinding the more damage is done to the flywheel.

I have the same noise and yup it's the starter grinding. Seems like a real pain to do, so I will wait until I need to do a clutch job or something before fixing or replacing.
