Default Is this considered as over-rev?

So, yesterday i was driving while chattin with my girlfriend next to me,
and i was in 4th, at around 6500~7000 rpm. Traffic was in front of me,
so with my lack of skills, i rev matched and downshift and rpm was right before the rev limit and soon it hit the limiter and i accidently sorta pushed gas while taking gear off to neutral.
Soon, i could smell something burning for about 5 sec.

Is this considered as over-rev? and if so, what would that smell be?

thx!

Let me get the straight, your where "cruising" at 6500-7000 in 4th.
Then you clutched in, and reved the car to redline. then clutch out to 3rd?
The new in 04 clutch delay valve may have saved you on this one.

Sounds like you just smoked the clutch.

A mechanical overrev is when you force the engine RPM over the redline by downshifting to a gear that redlines at a lower speed then the car is traveling.

When in doubt clutch in and push the brake. It will save you lots of $$$

A mechanical overev is not covered under warranty.

Best case scenario (starting from 6500), you hit about 8500 rpm. Worst case (starting from 7000), maybe over 9000.

As for the smell, did you shit your pants?

Shitting yourself may also cause a foul smell.

Stains the seats too.
