Coolant R&R question/concern
I did some work on my cooling system this weekend and did everything per the Helms manual (and Xviper's coolant flush thread) when it came to bleeding the system. My concern is I had the same results as cdelena - I could not get coolant to bleed from the engine bleed valve. Best I could get was a few "burbles" if I squeezed the top radiator hose with the cap on. I had plenty of fluid coming from the heater bypass hose bleed (once the coolant circulated).
My concern is trapped air - does the system on this car trap any or does it purge out into the overflow bottle (and when cooling coolant is sucked back up)? I drove to work today no problems (3 bars) and plan to check the level at lunch. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated so I can sleep better knowing I don't have a potential hot spot in my engine.
Thanks.

bump! I have the same question about trapped air. from my understanding through searching other threads, I think the air leaves the system automatically through heating and cooling cycles and into the reservoir. is this true?
I had trapped air in mine and the heat didn't work for a bit. I drove it around and it never overheated so I went through a couple heating and cooling cycles. Heat works now and I don't need to add any more coolant. So mine worked itself out through that process.
i just did mine and was able to get a clear stream out o the bleeder screw on the intake mainfiold. is the bottom hose gettng hot too? i had to massage the air bubles out of the system. Did this by massaing all the hoses that contained coolant. After a couple mins all the hoses should get hot which means coolant is flowing through them. This is a VW trick that i learned because their cooling systems dont have bleeder screws.
