Default Cost estimate of synchro?

There's an '05 S at my least favorite
stealership in the Orlando area offering this AP2
with bald tires and no 3rd gear among other probs.

They claim the sychro is shot....could anyone have
an estimate for repair of tranny?
It won't shift into 3rd!

They claim.."the car is driveable..who needs 3rd"?
geez..
thanks for any help

Avoid this car like the plague. Just move on and look for another.

I'd be cheaper to pick up a used tranny for $500 or so.

This. I don't remember exact number but second gear alone cost me like $200, add in labor to drop the tranny and install the gear .... $$$$

I would imagine that you could pick this car up pretty cheap, since:
1. Orlando is generally an older community (a lot of retirees) who will generally not bother with a car unless it is at 100%
2. They probably "know" or "think they know" what the labor would cost and don't think they will get any return on their money, especially when they know they could crack it open and something be horribly wrong. With this being said I'm sure you can come in quite low and they will entertain the number. If you don't mind going the used transmission route, I would just shoot for this cost. Buy one from a trusted member on this site (I have, and each of my purchases has been great! )
3. I LOVE BALD TIRES when buying a used car. You get to check the wear pattern and if all looks okay, you get to knock the price down some and then go buy exactly the tires you want woooooo!
4. You know that they got this car on the cheaps from someone, so it should be pretty easy for them to get a respectable return on their investment as-is.
5. Oh yea, and with the "who needs 3rd gear" comment... this salesman is a troll so please (for me) beat on him HARD over the price and do the walkaway at least twice... haha

Bottom line, if everything else checks out (see the thread on what to look for when buying a used s2000) I think you can get a good price on this.

Best of luck!

Edit: When I said I bought things off members of this site I never bought a used transmission, just other parts. Sorry if this was misleading.

That's probably the best advice!
Have to wonder just how they accomplished doing that
to the tranny..
dealership wants $15K for this '05...non-descript 18" wheels
with bald tires...103K miles...aftermarket intake(not K n N)..
front upper strut tie..aftermarket loud exhaust..it's a great
looking NFR but have to wonder about it's history!

They can want $15k, but good luck getting it. I wouldn't even offer $10k.
