Default Creaking from rear wheel?

Okay so i have read that its the spindle nut that needs to be retorqued to 220ftlb.

the question i have is they say the nut needs to be 'staked'. what exactly does this mean or what do i have to do?

also, what type of grease do i need to put on the nut?

thanks in advance.

You'll see the staked part when you take the wheel off. Make sure you pry the staked section up before removing the nut to clean the surfaces.
I just used some wheel bearing grease. Most important part is tomake sure everything is clean and only apply the grease in the recommended location.
If you don't weigh 225 get someone who does to tighten it. You want to tighten it smoothly vs jerky motions to make sure it's torqued properly.

plus, i hope you also read that if your rear wheel is creaking, then re-torquing the axle nut is really only a temporary fix

the staked axle nut will look similar to this:

check this thread (and the ones mentioned at the bottom of it), and maybe search a little in "under the hood" for the symptoms you're experiencing

Mine needed such a small adjustment that I didn't even need to un-stake it. It did look like the stake had backed out until it was against the key-way though. I turned it against the opposite side of the key-way and beat the stake in until it was square. It won't do that again.
