cylinder head torque
i have the manual and was reading about tightening the head down and it says to go to 22 ftlbs in two 90 steps? wtf does that mean? Go to 11ftlbs then 22ftlbs in 90 degree turns? some one explain this.
thanks
thanks
It means you tighten them to 22ftlbs. Then you turn each bolt 90 degrees in the pattern. Then you turn them 90 degrees in the pattern again. And if the bolts are new, you do it again.
1. all bolts to 22flbs
2. all bolts 90 degrees
3. all bolts 90 degrees
Old bolts? Stop. New Bolts do step 4
4. all bolts 90 degrees
1. all bolts to 22flbs
2. all bolts 90 degrees
3. all bolts 90 degrees
Old bolts? Stop. New Bolts do step 4
4. all bolts 90 degrees

torque all head bolts to 22 ft-lbs.
wipe head bolt tops with rag with brake cleaner.
Use a white paint pen or nail polish, and put a dot of white paint on each head bolt, at exactly 12 oclock.
Move all dots to 3 oclock.
move all dots to 6 oclock.
if you are using new bolts, turn all dots to 9 oclock.
using this process, it eliminates error. If you loose track and acdentially pull one head bolt too far, your in serious trouble.
When finished, you can see exactly how much youve turned your bolts, and your head will be torqued to perfection. even more precise than an angle meter.
