"dead spot" in clutch?
Oh yeah, to answer all your questions, I've been talking with viper, and kind of ignoring the rest of you, because you've been saying the same exact things he has, yet he's got more up-front know-how. Anyways..
My dad did the slip tests this afternoon like viper told me to do, and it passed. It's just the clutch that needs to be getting used to. It's all perfectly fine. Thanks for the concern though.

Just to clarify a couple of things...
Can you engage gears easily when stopped?
Does this happen after you have engaged 1st gear, and are trying to accelerate from a stop?
Driving around town - it may also be an issue with heat bog when moving off from a stop.

glad to hear everything seems to be fine. Enjoy the car and BE SAFE! I remember how i was like when i bought my first 5.0 stang when i was 16, boy i should be dead because of the stupid sh!t i'd pull.
Let me try and draw all of you out the "dead spot" I'm talking about. Try and follow along.
And it only gives me and my dad trouble starting from a stop. After that, it's fine.
Ready for the art?
clutch all the way out --->|--------|<-- clutch all the way in. This is what it does: |--| |--|.
Basically, it engages and is able to start from first in the dashed areas, and doesn't in the blank area. That's what my dad means by a dead spot. So once you hit this "dead spot" it wants to kill itselft, but it's really easy to put your foot to the floor to recover. Hopefully that clears up the wording of the infamous "dead spot".
But, like I said earlier, my dad ran slip test like viper told me to do, and it passed.

maybe i'm not understanding, but that "dead" spot you speak of seems to be the engage/disengage spot. so as you're accelerating from a stop, you're letting off the clutch pedal and starting to give gas. When you hit that spot it want's to stall? wouldn't this just mean you aren't giving it enough gas to keep the revs high enough to prevent stall?
eh, i'll let other's dig into this. maybe too much

is actually quite good for you. It makes perfect sense on what that "dead spot" is. I mean, it was my dad's first night out on the S2K, so I can assume that he just needed a feel for the clutch. And as for me, I'm just starting out on stick, and I know for a FACT I'm timid with the gas on the initial launch, because I'm a noob.
. Anyways, thanks for solving my retartedness. And thanks to you all for giving me shit about being 16, and having an S2K.
And thanks to the ones who cared enough for some advice. My clutch is fine, and I'm clearly stupid.
Well i'd still wait to see if anyone else chimes in to give their opinion. I was just thinking about when i was teaching some other kids how to drive stick (not on my S thank god). They couldn't understand why the car was stalling. so i had to explain the engage/disengage point and giving gas to keep the rpms high enough to prevent stall.
I don't think anyone was very hard on you for you being 16 and owning an s2k. Don't worry about it and keep working hard for what you have!
you're a noob with a clutch so it's not that you're stupid (well you could be but we can't completely deduce such claims in this thread alone
) . just keep working at it and you defineately have found a great resource for knowledge on this car. S2ki has saved me several times and i've learned so much already (only been around for less then a year).
oh and i can't completely conclude that the
is "quite good" for me, but it does the trick sometimes

I was skeptical that you were possibly one of those teens who pays no loan to own an S2k but I wasn't hard on you (notice I said I couldn't speak for you). Now that you cleared that up, I feel good for you to take on the loan.
Open forum is an interesting thing. You can get help really quick, but you can also get misinformation and/or flamed really quick if you aren't careful what you say. Here! Flame me!
