Default Defogger and Roof switch not working ?

Hi All,

First post and forgive me if I am not posting in the correct area.

I bought a Honda approved s2000 with a hardtop. Love the thing and always wanted one.

After fitting an Alpine head unit and summer days loomed, I opted to take the hard top roof off. Only to realise the roof switch wasn't doing anything (had been working few months before).

I checked all the normal stuff ; window lock off, handbrake on, elight on, passenger side window does roll from the window button.. but pushing the switch does NOTHING.

I have taken the car back to Honda they said they had replaced the switch and the control unit but seems to be some kind of wiring issue ???? the defogger button for the rear windscreen and sidemirrors also doesn't work.

Losing my mind a bit - even though the car is with the people who claim "they know it best", surely this should be a straight forward fix. The car has gone back to a Honda garage 3 times to get this fixed.

Does anyone have any advice or suggestions ??

Thanks
Dan

Check the switch that tells the car the hard top is on.

I'll bet you flipped the roof switch and defroster connectors in the console when you installed your radio. IDK why honda chose to use the exact same connector for both. Just flip them around and you should be good.

This.

Pull up your center console and unplug the roof switch and the defogger switch and switch the plugs.

Also, as you are finding out, Honda dealers tend to not know as much as they claim they know about these cars. It is wise to reference the forums and ask your questions here before deciding to just leave the problem with Honda for them to figure out. There are many extremely knowledgeable people on these forums that can help you.

Honda dealers do not always "know best". The S2000 is not a Civic, Accord, etc.

Definitely double check the connections to the console and make sure you didn't accidentally swap them when working on your head unit. I completely forgot to re-connect any of them the last time I took mine off and was puzzled for while about why my signals were not working.

While you're in there also check the connection that tells the car that the ebrake is on. After changing my HU that connection was loose and wouldn't allow the top to go up.

Thank you all for your replies.

@ jordanksartell - you were right the connectors needed to be swapped over ! so pleased yet infuriated such a simple issue has taken an embarrassing 2 months to fix !

All seems right with the world again (For now at least)

Cheers

(Y) Figured as much. Sad that the car went to Honda that many times and they couldn't figure it out. I'd ask for my money back. lol

Glad you got it sorted though.
