Default Diagnostic trouble codes question

I took my car to get inspected a while back. While I was driving home the MIL light came on. I immediately checked the gas cap and it was very loose. About a week later the MIL light turned off on its own.

My question is if that code remains stored in the car's computer. The reason I'm asking is because I had a cylinder misfire the other day and when I went to read the DTCs one of them returned was P1456 - EVAP Emission Control System Leak Detected (Fuel Tank System). Seems completely unrelated.

Since the code was never deleted would it get added to the set of codes caused by the misfire?

Thanks

I am pretty sure that the code stays, until it is cleared.

Yes, the mil code will stay until it is deleted even if the light went away.

That was my assumption too but wanted to be sure. Thanks.
