Since 1980 I have owned 2 Vettes, 2 911s and 1 Boxster S that when finished it, it was a fully race ready car, which I drove in SCCA sanctioned events and other track events. My wife and I have also owned a few other cars in there that don't pertain to this thread. I have also had the privilege of driving a fully race built 996 in some IMSA events as well.

I have driven a Viper GTSR, a Lotus and a Ferrari 360 just to name a few and I have the means to buy anyone of these cars. I chose to own an S2000 and love it. The reasons I love it are because of its racing lineage and it being so austere. It is not a luxury car, but a true diving machine in every aspect. Yes it is noisy, and it does rattle and as far as a daily driver it does have a harsh ride. For me that is the charm of the S2000. No it does not have all the torque of a muscle car or the exotics. When you put it on a track or a back country road the driving experience is like no other. When you accelerate out of a corner or run through the gears hitting just under the 9000 red line with the vtec kicking in, is to me just so exhilarating. My eyes light up and my heart skips a beat.

If you are not getting these feeling it maybe for one of two reasons; you don't really know how to drive it or sadly for you the "S" is just not your type of car.

it sounds like you are having mechanical troubles which are probably putting a damper on your experience. you should first go to a dealer and take a test drive on a similar s2000 (whether it be the 20 or 22) and draw some conclusions about the condition of your engine from that. alternatively you could run a compression test and that would reveal any immediate problem. the s is not a slow car and if you feel you are going slow (especially with a sc) than something is probably wrong.

The car is amazingly beautiful and a joy to drive when the top is down.

This man speaks the truth. I am an instructor at a Racing School in Canada. I have driven nearly every type of vehicle out there. Mild to wild. On the track or the street, I have been in everything short of a few exotics.

NOTHING has felt like the S2000 to me. I currently drive a road race prepped 1994 Camaro Z28. Don't try to hang with me on the racetrack with R-compound tires. I will embarrass you.

Why am I selling this car to get ONLY an S2000? Not because I think I will miss my Camaro's 340 RWHP and 340 RWTQ from 2100 - 4900 RPM, and a HP peak of around 6300 RPM. Ever driven something with the range in TQ like that? Basically it feels like the car is twice as fast as it is.

I am buying an S2000 for the PURE and RAW driving experience. How they got the feedback in the steering and the car with ELECTRIC friggin' power steering I will never know.

Though I have nearly the means to acquire the vehicles the poster before me stated he can I choose not to as well. I outgrew raw power and looking for finesse. I guess a Porsche would fit the bill in this area as well. However the S is what is for me.

My 2 cents.

Just reading your post, I dont know if this car is for you. You might wanna take all the advices given from everyone but remember, this car is not meant to be quiet. Especially, since its a convertible. There will still be rattles and squeaks. And this is a high-revving engine, so that will be loud, too. I find my S2 fast and its all stock. I cant imagine a S/C S2 and how it can be slow. I guess go check if your car needs tuning but I still cant believe it to be that slow. Good luck with your issues though.

I didnt read the whole thread and I'm sure this has been mentioned but you really only feel torque on the butt dyno. The sc S2k accelerates rather quikly up top.

I tried to post this is my local forum, but I'm not getting much help. Am I being unreasonable? Here is the story...

I'm not even 3 months into ownership yet and I've shelled out roughly $4600 in repairs and upgrades.

1: Its noisey, rattles and squeaks.

a. decelerating at 2500-3500 rpm, it rattles so bad I can feel it. I read somewhere about a clutch problem, but I just put a new clutch in the car (along with a new transmission, this problem existed with the old transmission too. However, this was not the reason I switched the transmission)? If I take the car out of gear/push the clutch peddle in the rattle goes away. A common "drone" was mentioned, but if thats the case HKS should be out of business. The exhaust system has been checked twice, and it has no rattles.

b. Top squeaks like crazy - Is there a specific type of oil I should use on the hinges?

c. Exhaust is too loud - this is my fault as I installed the HKS Hi-power cat back with a test pipe. Would putting the stock catalytic converter back on and ditching the test pipe make a worth while difference? I have considered going back to stock, or adding another resonator to the HKS system.

2: Its supercharged and its still slow. I would like to get it on the dyno and find out what I'm putting down, but I thought this thing would scream? I know this is relative so I can't ask for any advise here.

The car is amazingly beautiful and a joy to drive when the top is down. But this being my daily driver, I would like it to be a bit quieter and the rattles/squeaks taken care of. Does anyone have experience with the issues listed under number 1, and can offer advise how to fix this stuff?

Not looking for witty remarks, but help with these annoyances (if possible).
