What is the main difference between the stock bearing caps and the Comptech reinforced ones? Is it just a thicker chunk of steel being used or is it a different type of steel? What type of metal would be the best to use if you wanted to make the caps stonger...Tungsten, Titanium, or just a piece of hardened tool steel?

Any metallurgists on this board?

The OEM ones are a cast iron or cast something. The Comptech ones are billet steel.

Better question is does this piece BREAK? Or is it the Ring & Pinion that breaks?

My understanding is that just about anything in the diff is fragile.

So the billet steel caps seems to be working out just fine then. Has anyone with the Comptech caps had them break yet?

I don't know of that many owners who have installed the bearing caps. But I've never heard of them failing.
