Differences between AP1 and AP2 shocks?

Differences between AP1 and AP2 shocks?
Can someone tell me if the AP1 front shocks are physically identical (dimensions, mounting, etc) to the AP2 shocks? What are the differences in damping?
I blew a front shock (2002 AP1) this weekend. I can get access to a set of *free* AP2 shocks from a friend who upgraded his AP2 suspension. Just wondering what the differences are.

EDIT: actually i'm getting mixed results with the search function. i think they might fit, but their spring rates are adjusted to the AP2 specs,
