Great write up, first time with a rwd car, so fire time doing this Tomorrow I will be heading to honda for the washers (hopefully) and after that ill head to pepboys and get the diff fluid and pump, at my work they are getting rid of the mobile 1 gear oil to replace it with Peak, so last I checked they were on discount prices + my disccount. Maybe ill stock up! Wish me luck

 

Went to pepboys picked up same pump as OP ,1 qrt of mobile 75w-90and 24mm socket , I couldn't find a 23mm, so I tryed a 15/16, that failed! So I'm glad I didn't take out the drain plug first, because now I'm going to have to wait for ammazon to ship the 23mm socket. Btw I went to 4 diffrent autoparts stores and no luck finding a 6point 23mm so ammazon was my only source for 15$. I went to dealer for washers and the part #s you guys posted did not match with what honda wanted to give me. I told him I wanted (904o2-pcz-003) &( 9o401-pcz-003)

 

It was a little bit of a loose fit, but a 24mm worked fine for me. Given the size of the fastener and the low amount of torque required, I'm not concerned with rounding the corners of the nut. It's tightened to 33 ft-lbs so it can't be that hard to break loose. By comparison, a crank pulley bolt head is smaller and fastened to a much tighter spec.

If I had to do it again, I'd pick up 24mm combination wrench for the fill plug.

 

I find a 23mm box end wrench works best, I couldn't get a socket in there to loosen the fill bolt, a 23mm box end is usually going to be pretty long so you can get enough torque to break loose the fill bolt pretty easily. That size wrench should be easy to find too.

 

I was having a little of trouble just using a 12" adjustable wrench, but a couple of light taps with a dead blow hammer and it came loose easily.

 

Had a little trouble with the fill bolt as well. Ended up cutting the socket in half to make it ultra shallow. Still awkward getting the wrench up there. But it worked

 

Yeah, the bolts are switched.

 

whats the significant of changing out the washer?

i blew it off on mine and just re-used ill proly just buy new ones next change

edit: read more pages of thread came to conclusion im fine. my washer was in fine condition my car had 24xxx miles the diff fluid looked like mud so it was proly its first change. as long as it is not crushed its fine to be re-used is my final decision. if it beings to leak i will notice and easily solve the problem anyway

How do u guys jack the car up to change the diff fluid?I'm lowered 1" and it always seems to be a pain to get under
